Dodge Avenger: Electronic speed control

When engaged, the Electronic Speed Control takes overthe accelerator operation at speeds greater than 25 mph(40 km/h).

The Electronic Speed Control lever is located on the rightside of the steering wheel.

Electronic Speed Control Lever

NOTE: In order to ensure proper operation, the ElectronicSpeed Control System has been designed to shutdown if multiple Speed Control functions are operated atthe same time. If this occurs, the Electronic Speed ControlSystem can be reactivated by pushing the ElectronicSpeed Control ON/OFF button and resetting the desiredvehicle set speed.

To Activate

Push and release the ON/OFF button located on the endof the Electronic Speed Control lever. The CRUISE indicatorin the instrument cluster will illuminate. To turn thesystem off, push and release the ON/OFF button asecond time. The CRUISE indicator will turn off. Be sureto turn the system off when not in use.

NOTE: The Electronic Speed Control system will automaticallyturn off when the ignition is turned OFF.

WARNING:

Leaving the Electronic Speed Control on when not inuse is dangerous. You could accidentally set thesystem or cause it to go faster than you want. Youcould lose control and have an accident. Alwaysleave the system off when you are not using it.

To Set a Desired Speed

Turn the Electronic Speed Control ON. When the vehiclereaches the speed desired, press down on the lever andrelease SET DECEL. Release the accelerator and thevehicle will operate at the selected speed.

NOTE:

• The vehicle must be traveling at least 25 mph(40 km/h) for the Electronic Speed Control to set.

• The vehicle should be traveling at a steady speed andon level ground before pressing the lever SET DECEL.

To Deactivate

A soft tap on the brake pedal, or pulling the ElectronicSpeed Control lever toward you (CANCEL), or normalbrake pressure while slowing the vehicle will deactivatethe Electronic Speed Control without erasing the setspeed from memory. Pressing the ON/OFF button orturning off the ignition erases the set speed frommemory.

To Resume Speed

If you deactivated the Electronic Speed Control withouterasing the set speed from memory and your vehiclespeed is above 20 mph (32 km/h) you can resume theprevious set speed. To do so, push the lever up andrelease RESUME ACCEL, and then remove your footfrom the accelerator pedal.

To Vary the Speed Setting

When the Electronic Speed Control is set, you can increasespeed by pushing up and holding the RESUMEACCEL lever. If the lever is continually held in theRESUME ACCEL position, the set speed will continue toincrease until the lever is released, then the new set speedwill be established.

Tapping RESUME ACCEL once will result in a 1 mph(2 km/h) speed increase. Each time the lever is tapped,speed increases so that tapping the lever three times willincrease speed by 3 mph (5 km/h), etc.

To decrease speed while the Electronic Speed Control isset, push down and hold the SET DECEL lever. If thelever is continually held in the SET DECEL position, theset speed will continue to decrease until the lever isreleased. Release the lever when the desired speed isreached, and the new set speed will be established.

Tapping the SET DECEL lever once will result in a 1 mph(2 km/h) speed decrease. Each time the button is tapped,speed decreases.

WARNING:

Do not use Electronic Speed Control in heavy trafficor on roads that are winding, icy, snow-covered, orslippery.

To Accelerate for Passing

Press the accelerator as you would normally. When thepedal is released, the vehicle will return to the set speed.

Using Electronic Speed Control On Hills

NOTE: The Electronic Speed Control system maintainsspeed up and down hills. A slight speed change onmoderate hills is normal.

On steep hills, a greater speed loss or gain may occur soit may be preferable to drive without Electronic SpeedControl.
